Wellington - Athletic Park
(NOTE: Athletic Park has since been replaced by a retirement village)
The police had learnt their lesson, and because of the first test being cancelled due to ill-preparation, the police force in Wellington were well prepared for their clash with the protestors. However the clash occurred on Moleworth street in Wellington, outside Parliament on the 29th July 1981; the same day that the Springboks were playing New Plymouth. During this confrontation, the police had used their batons on the bare-headed protestors for the first time, firmly leading to the radicalisation of the movement. It can be argued that the police's response in Wellington was due to the events in which took place in Hamilton, and it is known for a fact that they had received greater funding in order to control the events which would occur.
The protestors thus took further action as they disrupted telecommunications through damaging a waveguide on a microwave repeater, which disrupted telephone and data services. This led to police further strengthening security at public facilities in order to prevent such a thing occurring again.
