Key ideas
One of the key ideas to the background to the cause of the Springbok Tour protests was the failure by Robert Muldoon and the government to recognise the Gleneagles agreement which was clearly signed to discourage all sporting contact with South Africa in order to send them a message that countries do not accept their apartheid-regime. This led to the fact that the international community now looked down upon New Zealand and this frustrated some New Zealander's. The most immediate key idea for the Springbok Tour was the apartheid regime in South Africa. The fact that people were judged upon by the colour of their skin and that due to this not everyone received equal rights angered the international community. This is what led to the commonwealth countries of the world agreeing upon the Gleneagles agreement.
